Primary Bath As-Built

Proposed Design

The main drivers behind this project were the underutilized and cramped space, the lack of effective storage, the dark atmosphere, and general material degradation. The clients were an eclectic, retired couple who wanted to ensure their bathroom aligned with their evolving lifestyle and reflected their creative personalities. Removing an old tub, replacing and adding larger windows, and adding little pockets of hidden storage transformed this bathroom into exactly what they were looking for.

Every area of this bathroom has some sort of unique or added benefit. The water closet is hidden, but not closed off. It has a full-height built-in cabinet and floating shelves. The shower has a hidden set of shelves, multiple shower functions, and a great view of the client’s wooded property. The vanity has custom reeded door cabinetry with built-in plugs in the drawers. All three mirrors are recessed Robern medicine cabinets with electrical capacity. The main walking space of the bathroom has a heated floor and a secret medicine cabinet featuring a piece of art commissioned by the client rather than a mirror.

The material choices were what really elevated this project! Searching for our spotlight tile, Monet Wild Atelier Green 24x48 Artisan Decor Matte Porcelain Wall Tile by TileBar, was the main focus of our search. The clients wanted to find something that had pattern and movement, was unique and abstract, while not being a handcrafted marble mosaic. This tile set the tone for the overall space, and the rest of the choices fell in line naturally.

There are multiple levels of lighting. We have a chandelier, sconce lighting, mirror lighting, bidet lighting, and overhead lighting. All of these can work independently from each other or collaboratively to create a versatile set of atmospheres that coordinate with the natural lighting.

The trust my clients had in me, the collaboration I had with the production team, and the pride I have in this design make this project my favorite project of the year.
