Small but Moody
National Association of Remodeling Industry RotY Award: Residential Bathroom 70k-90k - 2025
This bathroom up-fit was located in the client’s newly renovated theater room in their attic area. Our goal with this project was to match the theater room’s atmosphere, but have it feel like its own distinct place. Without relocating any of the major plumbing fixtures, I was able to fully revamp the use of the space, including adding additional storage. Despite the small size of this space, the implemented design made the space feel comfortable. The use of dark and dynamic tones achieved a sophisticated look, while the amount of unique detailing elevated it to being its own experience.
A Lively Retreat:
National Association of Remodeling Industry RotY Award: Residential Bath over 150,000K - 2025
This addition was derived from the clients’ need for additional living space and storage. I designed a smaller living room area and closet to accomplish this. There’s even a little crawlspace door the client intends to use for ladder and tool storage. Their backyard is a place where they relax, entertain, and take great pride in. It was important to ensure there was outdoor access to their patio and to be as unintrusive to the natural landscape as possible.
A New Exterior Outlook:
The front of this home originally hosted a simple, but deteriorating set of steps. The client wanted to enhance the curb appeal, the ability to enjoy her front yard, and improve the safety of the front of her house. She wanted to make sure the porch matched the style of her house, but had some bit of her personality included. We were able to accomplish this with a stylized ceiling, unique tile application, and curved planters.
A Refreshed Kitchen:
The need for a more functional kitchen drove the design for this project. The wall with the pass-through was opened up, and the configuration of the cabinetry was altered to create a more streamlined flow, improving both efficiency and efficacy. One of the clients enjoys gourmet cooking, so providing the needed tools and space was a high priority, as well as ensuring there was space for the rest of the family to spend time with him while he is cooking.
A Calm and Peaceful Bathroom:
The original layout of this bathroom had a disproportionate amount of space dedicated to the elements the clients considered to be less important. The focus had been to enlarge the closet, provide a larger bathing space, and improve the flow. The clients have very different schedules from one another and need to use the bathroom and closet at different times of the day without disturbing each other’s sleep. By having a walk-through closet, we were able to dedicate more efficient space to the bathroom and give them a more luxurious experience.
Working with a View:
The location of this home is something the clients love, and the goal for this project was to improve their home to match their needs so they can live there as long as possible. Two additions were added to the main structure, adding two rooms, a mudroom, and revamping the laundry room and pantry. We relocated a large existing window and added large glass sliding doors out to a new deck.
