Small but Moody

New Floorplan

The original bathroom had been rarely used and had needed an update as a result of the theater room beyond it having just been renovated. The goal for this space was to have it feel moodier, modern, and to add more storage if possible. We removed the tub and sliding glass shower door. We took out the old toilet and vanity as well. The previous layout did not meet the code clearances, and the shower wall and vanity were adjusted to accommodate the new toilet. The client wanted there to be as much detail and customization we could while still working within the set budget. I was able to accomplish this with three different tile types, a glass shower wall on a curb, a floating vanity with a vessel sink, a floating toilet, a newly integrated built-in open storage area, and a very specific molding design. The rest of the client’s home was more contemporary and light. Her concern was the new theater bathroom, while understandably must be its own space, would be too much of a departure from the style in the rest of her home. The modeling design was a way to bridge that gap while maintaining the new space’s independence. For the dynamic lighting, I worked alongside the company that had done the theater lighting. In doing so, the bathroom ultimately has the capacity for many levels of lighting, matching the mood of any movie playing in the theater.
