The original layout of this home no longer suited the needs of the clients. The living room was also a playroom, the guest room was constantly utilized and couldn’t be used as a second office, and their two decks were entirely disconnected. The view from the back of the house is gorgeous, and one of the goals was to showcase this more than it had been. Other pain points needed to be tackled with this project. The passage from the garage to the laundry room was a cramped screened porch, the laundry room was also the pantry, and there was only one guest bathroom. Additionally, there were the challenges of relocating/reusing the large window in the existing office, and the grade of the landscaping in the backyard dropping off drastically.

By extending the living space off the back of both sides of the house, an additional office, playroom, mudroom, bathroom, and pantry were all created. A deck spanned the space between the two “prongs” of the addition, and we were able to add a featured window wall off the back of the living room.

The clients had a high contrast preference in materiality, and the bathroom was an area we were able to implement that concept. The laundry room and the mudroom also have an interesting connection; the tile and grout colors are inverse of each other.

Overall, we were able to bring more space, more storage, and more light into the home.

With this project having been recently completed, professional photography has yet to be taken, but you can see some of the later progress photos below!
